No Guts, No Glory
Itinerary
Day 1
Start Your Engines. Your day begins at Charlotte Motor Speedway, the heart of stock car country in the racing community of Cabarrus County. A guide will take you "Over the Wall” to locations that no other racetrack offers. The grand tour includes a close-up look at areas usually off-limits during the battle for points and positions. Visit the infield hospital and trauma center, media center, 600 Racing, and The Dirt Track. Experience the thrill as your coach driver makes a qualifying run around the 1.5-mile oval track. Travel down pit road and take a photo in the same Victory Circle that has hosted the greatest drivers in NASCAR history. A special gift with the official “I"ve been Over The Wall” logo will be given to each member of your team. (2 to 3 hours)
After all the racetrack excitement, you’ll take a lunch break to refuel at one of the local spots for lunch. If you want a real treat, lunch is available in the exclusive, members only Speedway Club.
Start your afternoon with a behind-the-scenes tour at Richard Petty Driving Experience. The company presently operates in 25 locations worldwide. Since they build all of their cars in-house, you will have the opportunity to view the procedure first hand. Pay close attention because your next stop will be Charlotte Motor Speedway for a ride in one of these cars. (1 hour or more to fit the needs of the group.)
Suit up, climb in, and hold on. You’re about to go on the ride of your life in the Richard Petty Driving Experience. Ride shotgun in a two-seat stock car driven by a professional instructor for a NASCAR Sprint Cup style Qualifying Run. Feel the thrill as you travel at speeds up to 165 MPH. (Time based on size of group. 25 can ride in 1 hour)
Now that the racing spirit is in high gear, you’ll visit the Sam Bass Gallery, a tribute to racing and drivers. Sam Bass is the first officially licensed artist of NASCAR. View over 300 pieces of original artwork and limited edition prints as well as helmets, uniforms, and even cereal boxes that he has designed. If Sam Bass is in the studio, he’ll surely come out to greet your group. (45 minutes)
Dinner will be at Rocky River Golf Club of Concord, where you’ll experience the essence of southern hospitality. Entertainment for the evening will be provided by Monkey Business. Super stars of the century featuring Neil Diamond, Frank Sinatra and Tim McGraw will entertain you in a Broadway Review. Your very own DJ will be on hand to inspire you. (2 to 2 1/2 hours)
Day 2
After breakfast at your hotel, you’ll head to Dennis Carpenter Reproductions and Museum. What started as a hobby has turned into an unbelievable business. Today they reproduce restoration parts needed for Ford cars, trucks, tractors and Cushman motor scooters. After a brief tour of the plant, you’ll visit the Dennis Carpenter Museum, home to a private collection of more than 430 restored cars, motorcycles, and tractors. Your tour guide, Roy, has many fascinating stories related to the items on display. From the area, he was a friend to Ralph Earnhardt and watched both Sr. and Jr. grow up. Ask him about his amphibious car. (1 1/2 to 2 hours)
Our next stop is Hendrick Motorsports, one of NASCAR’s top winning teams with drivers Jimmie Johnson, Jeff Gordon, Dale Earnhardt Jr. and Kasey Kahne. Hendrick Motorsports Museum is a must stop for all stock car racing fans, featuring a 15,000 sq. ft. museum and speed shop that showcases almost two decades of HMS racing. Inside the museum, see Hendrick Motorsports’ most famous stock cars, sports car exhibits and championship trophy displays. Viewing areas for each Hendrick Motorsports race shop provide fans a unique behind-the-scenes peek as teams prepare cars for each race weekend. (1 1/2 to 2 hours)
Our next stop is Concord Regional Airport, the fourth busiest airport in the state, with nearly 200 takeoffs or landings daily. The airport is home to over 190 airplanes, three flight schools and a helicopter training school. Because of the close proximity to so many race teams, about 60 percent of the airports overall business is NASCAR related. Roush Racing, Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates, and Hendricks Motorsports are just a few of the tenants. Your tour begins in the terminal with an overview of the facility. Take an up-close look at the private planes of the driver’s, the fire trucks and other equipment used by the airport. (1 to 2 hours)
Thanks for visiting. Come back to Cabarrus County and see us again soon.
